Built over a period of 45 years by the Manning, Wardle & Co. of Leeds, this L Class 0-6-0ST locomotive was supplied to various civil engineering contracting firms in the UK. The later versions of this locomotive were built with an enclosed cab. "Matthew Murray (pictured above) was built in 1903 (works No.1601) spent most of its career at the Kent Portland Cement Works until being withdrawn in 1967. After changing hands a few time, the loco now resides with the Middleton Railway since 1990, where it was returned to service after a lengthy restoration process.
