Built at British Railway's Ashford railway works in Kent, England, this locomotive of Oliver Bulleid design, a diesel-mechanical 0-6-0 locomotive was introduced in 1950 to work the shunting / transfer yards and as a stand-by for main-line working. This locomotive prototype was equipped with a 500 horsepower Paxman engine but soon proved itself unsuitable for either duty. The design was written off as unsuccessful and 11001 was cut up for scrap in December, 1959.
