Grolier Thomas the Tank Engine Book Club Collection

Grolier Books initiated the Thomas the Tank Engine Book Club during the period of 1994-95. The 30 volume set contained individual stories from the Railway Series mostly penned by the Rev. Awdry, with the latter two by son Christopher. The books were a little larger than the original classic RWS books at 26.6 x 16cm. Railway Series Miniatures Collection

Four tiny compact paperback RWS volumes were tucked away inside an equally tiny slipcase (3.5in x 2.5in) and sold in in the UK and U.S.A. during the 1990's. Slipcase covers below courtesy Callum Walker.

Special Anniversary Editions

Egmont Books published a Special 60th Anniversary edition of Thomas the Tank Engine in 2005 which featured the original Reginald Payne illustrations. The 2010 65th Anniversary volume is housed in an attractive slipcase, and includes a detailed history of the Railway Series in the book's Preface. (Pictures below from Callum's collection)
